Some of the most memorable movie scenes have taken place on staircases. From Gone with the Wind and The Untouchables to John Wick and The Joker, staircases have added drama and visual impact. They’re so much more than a way to get from one level to another.
At Sydehham Bespoke Joinery, we love working on custom staircases. They are an exciting design and engineering challenge that lets us employ the full range of our creative and craft skills. We aim to produce a delightful work of beauty that invites people to move through your home and brings pleasure to every step, rather than just being a purely functional item.
But of course we don’t forget the functional part either. For example, if you have a small house or apartment we can build storage beneath your stairway. Just let us know what you have in mind and we’ll come up with a brilliant solution.

What’s your staircase style? Traditional or architectural.
We can design and build bespoke staircases to enhance any type of home. We can either work with your architect or you can deal directly with our super-talented in-house design team.

Traditional staircases
If your new home design or renovation project suits a traditional staircase we’re happy to oblige. In this example the choice of timber adds a subtle touch of modernity to a classic stairway.

Architectural staircases
When you get into architectural territory the options are virtually endless. The range of staircases we’ve built includes floating, fixed, switchback, spiral, and geometrical. And beyond that the only limit is your imagination and the scale of your new home.
One of the things that we specialise in is hiding the fixings – in other words, the engineering that supports the staircase. Hidden fixings create a clean, elegant look, and it lets us build staircases that look like they’re magically suspended in space.

Arty alternatives
Because our staircases are 100% bespoke, there are infinite ways you can customise your stairs to your own tastes. You can select the flooring material for the treads, the type of balustrade, and what materials you’d like incorporated into the structure. As well as a wide variety of timber, we commonly work with steel, glass, and polycarbonate.
