Built around a historic farm with links to the days of the Otago goldrush, Ayrburn near Arrowtown is now a world-class wine and dining destination. Our involvement here began after the property was bought by the Winton Group, which specialises in premium property development.
Winton is known for its money-is-no-object approach to development and never settling for less than the very best, so this was a dream commission for us because it gave us full rein to use all our skills in the pursuit of perfection. At Ayrnburn, we were privileged to be asked to work on three separate projects – The Bakehouse, Billy’s, and a residential show suite.
The Ayrburn Bakehouse
The Bakehouse, Ayrburn’s casual dining restaurant, is built in the style of an old Otago farm building, and the joinery had to match that theme. But despite the slightly rustic tone, there was no room for crudely made joinery. Like every job we do, the craftsmanship is exquisite, and the hardwood timber we use is of the finest grade. In this instance, we used a selection that included recycled Rimu, Blackbutt (a variety of eucalyptus), American walnut, American oak, and Iroko (also known as African teak).
Alongside the timber joinery, we also incorporated custom metal finishes and marble. Literally no expense was spared in the creation of a truly special dining experience. If you’re in Queenstown, we definitely recommend visiting The Bakehouse for a dine-in meal or a takeaway.
Billy’s Restaurant
As a nod to Arrowtown’s important Chinese history, Billy’s offers a Chinese-inspired fine dining experience in Ayrburn’s original 160-year-old homestead. Once again, it got the full Sydenham Bespoke Joinery treatment, with a brand new fitout that was entirely sympathetic to the historic theme of the restaurant.
Northbrook Show Suite
The Northbrook residential development is incorporated into the wider Ayrburn precinct and offers premium residences to retirees built in the same historic Central Otago style as the other buildings, yet full of modern luxury touches. We supplied the joinery throughout the display suite, including the hardwood timber doors, windows, kitchen, bathroom and panelling.
Northbrook Wanaka Residences
The Winton Group’s latest endeavour is a 24-residence retirement community in Wanaka. Like the Northbrook development in Arrowtown, it features the very highest level of attention to detail. Based on the success of Ayrburn, Winton has entrusted us to provide the joinery for the whole of the Northbrook Wanaka project.
