The answer is everything! Ask any developer, architect or interior designer – in a premium restaurant, hotel, retail store, or commercial development, the joinery has a much more important part to play than just lining the walls and providing shelves, counters, partitions, and storage. It is actually what defines the character of the space.
That’s why the South Island’s leading architects and designers choose to work with us when the interior really matters.
At Sydenham Bespoke Joinery, we have the design expertise, manufacturing capability and dedication to traditional craftsmanship to produce commercial joinery that makes the difference to your project. We can do anything for you, from an individual statement piece like a bar counter to a full fit-out like our work on the Sudima Hotel that requires production capacity and project management skills at scale.

Proven on exceptional commercial projects
Recently we’ve worked on a range of different commercial projects from boutiques to premium retirement villages. Each is in a different location, with different design briefs. But the expectation when we’re appointed to a project is always the same – that we will deliver an exceptional result that will enhance the development with our exquisite craftsmanship and attention to detail.
Our Christchurch manufacturing facility gives us the capacity to produce commercial joinery at scale, while retaining the attention to detail that we’re known for. The latest CNC machinery and other specialised equipment allow us to deliver exceptional accuracy and repeatability, while the knowledge of our experienced craftspeople allows us to tackle the unusual shapes, junctions, finishes and details that make our bespoke interiors stand apart.
At Sudima Christchurch City, as mentioned above, our work included the award-winning Moss Spa along with wall panelling, banquette seating, shelving and a complete bar fit-out. We have also worked extensively on Winton Group projects, including Ayrburn near Arrowtown and their premium Northbrook retirement development in Wānaka. You can read more about our work at Ayrburn here.

Materials that make a statement
We work with premium hardwoods including American White Oak, American Walnut, Victorian Ash, Blackbutt, Iroko, and reclaimed New Zealand native timber. Depending on the project, these can be combined with timber veneers, stone, marble, metal and other finishes to create results that can be traditional, contemporary, understated, luxurious, or rustic.

From your vision to a finished interior
We enjoy working closely with architects, interior designers, developers and builders to support their vision with our deep, practical understanding of production design, materials, manufacturing, and installation.
We especially appreciate being invited to get involved at the initial stages of a commercial project. When we’re engaged early, it gives us the opportunity to fully resolve details before manufacturing begins and find efficient ways to realise complex designs without compromises.

Traditional craftsmanship meets modern manufacturing
Commercial joinery presents a particular challenge – and it’s one we relish. Commercial joinery must look amazing, and it also needs to withstand the demands of a busy working environment. But with our practical skills combined with our insistence on premium materials, we deliver a result that we’re often told goes beyond expectations.

A dedicated installation team
The best results come when we are able to follow the whole process through from start to finish. That’s why we employ a dedicated installation team who have the skills and experience to ensure the finished joinery fits precisely.
Bring us your most ambitious ideas
The best commercial interiors have the WOW factor. If you’re an architect, interior designer, developer or builder planning a premium hospitality, accommodation, retail, workplace or commercial project, we would love to talk to you.
