Our dedication to traditional craftsmanship doesn’t stop us from being at the cutting edge of technology. Combined with our traditional tools, the latest equipment like CNC Nesting allows us to build our award winning kitchens, bathrooms, windows and doors, and stairs – and also helps us save material, reduce costs, speed up the manufacturing processes, use less energy, produce less waste, and create a healthier working environment for our factory team.
In this article we’ll take a closer look at some of the new technology we’re using at Sydenham Bespoke Joinery.

- PUR edging
- Digital spindle moulders

CNC Nesting
A little like solving a jigsaw puzzle, CNC Nesting software arranges the component shapes of cabinetry on a sheet of material (typically MDF for kitchens and bathrooms) in a way that absolutely maximises the amount of material that’s used on each sheet. Nesting refers to the complex way that components are tucked in and around each other. CNC Nesting can also shorten production time and streamline subsequent production processes like cutting, drilling, and routing. Accuracy is improved too because CNC cutting is precise to fractions of a millimetre and extremely consistent.
PUR Edging
In the past, the edges of kitchen and bathroom cabinets could suffer from mould or water damage due to moisture ingress under the edging material. But now PUR (Polyurethane Reactive) glue edge banding eliminates that problem with a durable, water and steam-proof seal that won’t peel off, making it ideal for high-humidity environments. PUR also has high thermal stability, so it can stand up to heat from ovens, dishwashers, and pots and pans. It looks better, too! The finish we can achieve is beautifully seamless and will stay that way.

Digital spindle moulder
As bespoke joiners, we often work with solid timber. Like the CNC machine we talked about above, the digital spindle moulder is a computer-controlled tool that helps us work with solid timber more efficiently and with no loss of quality. We use our digital spindle moulder for shaping, profiling, and cutting wood with precision of tenths of a millimetre.

Ventilation
Cutting timber and wood products like MDF produces a lot of dust, which can be a health hazard if you’re exposed to it long-term – like in a joinery factory. Our team’s welfare is vitally important, and that’s why we have always made our ventilation and extraction systems a top priority. The air quality at Sydenham Bespoke Joinery exceeds WorkSafe standards.

Future proofing traditional values
At Sydenham Bespoke Joinery, the latest technology dovetails perfectly with our obsessive dedication to the values of traditional joinery – and the precision and beauty it adds to every project we work on. So while we’ll be sure to keep up with the times now and into the future, we’ll never leave our history behind.
